Description

Quantium, South Africa, a key partner in the Global Heat Attribution Project (GHAP), will be engaged to provide essential access, harmonisation, and analytical support for the Discovery Health Database. This database comprises detailed health records of approximately 3 million members across South Africa and represents a critical source of private sector health insurance data. Under this contract, Quantium will lead the integration and management of the dataset, ensuring its effective use in analysing the impacts of climate change on maternal and child health outcomes. By leveraging advanced data science methodologies, Quantium will develop analytical models and indicators to quantify the relationship between climate variables and health outcomes in insured populations. Quantium will also harmonise the Discovery Health data with other GHAP datasets, enabling cross-country and longitudinal analyses consistent with global research standards. This harmonisation will involve standardising data formats and variables, and applying innovative techniques to address data gaps and ensure data quality. In addition, Quantium will support the analytical validation process and collaborate with GHAP partners to interpret findings, thus facilitating evidence-based policy decisions aimed at mitigating climate-related health risks. The specialised nature of this work, including the requirement for secure access to proprietary data and the technical expertise in harmonising complex health datasets, justifies the direct award of this contract.
