Description

Galway is committed to achieving carbon neutrality and environmental sustainability as a Climate Resilient, Biodiversity-rich, and Environmentally Sustainable city by 2050, aligning with the Irish National Climate Action Plan. The city aims to improve energy efficiency by 50 percent by 2030, as outlined in its City Development Plan and Climate Action strategies. Galway City adopted its Local Authority Climate Action Plan (LACAP) in February 2024, targeting a 51 percent reduction in emissions by 2030. To reach net-zero emissions, Galway focuses on enhancing building energy efficiency, green procurement, carbon rating for businesses, and nature-based solutions. The WATERWAY project addresses multiple challenges in Galway, including low renewable energy uptake, energy poverty, lack of dedicated climate project funding, and the slow pace of upskilling in the green energy sector. Despite having rich natural resources such as the Corrib River, Galway relies on non-renewable energy, limiting its ability to meet ambitious climate targets. The purpose of this tender competition is to procure a consultant to support the Main Urban Authority (MUA) to develop the necessary reports and documentation as well supporting the MUA and its partners in delivering the WATERWAY project as outlined below as well as our national climate action targets and sustainable development goals.
